‘The Pitt’ Star Shawn Hatosy Gets Real About What’s ‘Hard on Us’

The Pitt star Shawn Hatosy opened up about the emotional impact of cast departures. The actor plays Dr. Abbot on the hit HBO Max medical drama. He admitted that changing cast dynamics can be difficult for everyone involved.

Shawn Hatosy opens up about how The Pitt cast departures affect the actors left behind

According to US, Hatosy discussed the cast changes during an Emmy-related event on September 13. He explained how actors can quickly become close while working together. That bond can make departures especially difficult for those who remain.

“You start [and] it’s very exciting because you don’t know what’s in store,” Hatosy said. He explained that the cast eventually becomes “this family” through shared experiences. The actors also spend considerable time together while filming the series.

Hatosy noted that The Pitt involves challenging and stressful work. That environment can encourage cast members to rely heavily on each other. “You lean on each other,” he said while discussing their relationships.

The actor acknowledged that departures are part of the show’s unusual format. “The fact that sometimes we — particularly with the nature of the show and how people do leave — it’s hard,” Hatosy explained. He added, “It’s hard on us, but that’s television.”

The Pitt has already experienced notable cast changes since its premiere. Tracy Ifeachor departed after Season 1 as Dr. Collins. Supriya Ganesh also left after her character’s story reached its conclusion.

Despite those changes, Hatosy remains confident about Season 3. The upcoming season is scheduled to premiere in January 2027. Hatosy said the writers still have plenty of stories to tell.

“I don’t see it stopping,” he told Us. He also described the production as efficient and relatively inexpensive to make. The actor believes those factors could support the show’s continued to run.

Hatosy also teased what viewers can expect from the new season. He revealed that the story begins earlier in the day. Viewers will reportedly see some of the night shifts before Robby returns.

The actor has already read the first five Season 3 episodes. He called the new material “just as good” as previous seasons. Hatosy also hinted that Dr Abbot will have slightly longer hair.

For now, cast departures remain an unavoidable part of the medical drama. Hatosy’s comments show how those changes affect the actors personally. Still, the remaining cast appears ready for another demanding season.
