Kate Hudson’s 5-Year Engagement Hasn’t Led to a Wedding for One Big Reason

Kate Hudson explained why she and Danny Fujikawa still had not made concrete wedding plans five years after their engagement.

During the September 8 episode of her Sibling Revelry podcast, Hudson said cost had become one of the biggest obstacles. She also admitted that their large family made a small ceremony difficult to imagine.

Hudson said she had continued thinking about a wedding but had not settled on what she wanted.

“I still am not married. I’m just engaged, and I keep thinking about wedding, like what are we gonna do,” she said.

The actress then pointed to the price of a wedding as one reason for the delay.

“That’s part of why I don’t want to get married—it’s too expensive,” Hudson said. “I just want hors d’oeuvres. I wanna do, like, chips and salsa.”

The Kate Hudson wedding discussion became more complicated when she considered the guest list.

Hudson said Fujikawa preferred a smaller celebration. However, she explained that their relatives alone could quickly fill the room.

“Danny’s like, ‘I just want a small wedding.’ I’m like, ‘Our family alone is like 50 people,’” she said.

Hudson added, “There’s a million kids. There’s a million uncles and aunts and cousins.”

The couple started dating in 2017 and announced their Kate Hudson engagement in 2021. They also shared daughter Rani, who was born in 2018.

Hudson also had son Ryder with ex-husband Chris Robinson and son Bingham with former fiancé Matt Bellamy.

Her brother Oliver Hudson joined the wedding conversation and recalled how he limited the guest list for his own 2006 ceremony with Erinn Bartlett.

Oliver said he refused to invite people he had never met, even if they were spouses of longtime friends.

His experience gave Hudson another example of the difficult choices that could come with planning a smaller wedding.

For Kate Hudson and Danny Fujikawa, however, no firm ceremony plans had emerged. Hudson’s comments showed that cost and the size of their family continued to shape the discussion.
