Kaya Scodelario Reacts to Meghan Markle’s ‘The Gentlemen’ Casting Buzz

Kaya Scodelario, the actress who plays the sharp and unflappable Susie Glass in Netflix’s The Gentlemen, knows there is plenty of curiosity about who could show up next. But when Meghan Markle’s name came up in connection with the series, Scodelario made one thing clear.

She said that she isn’t the person making those casting calls.

Kaya Scodelario says she has ‘no decision-making abilities’ over Meghan Markle casting

During an appearance on Today on Wednesday, Sept. 9, Kaya Scodelario, 34, was asked about reports that Meghan, 45, is in talks for a role in the crime drama.

Her answer was pretty straightforward. She said, “I, unfortunately, have no decision-making abilities. I wish I did,” Scodelario said. “I’d love to cast the show myself. I’d put all my friends in it.”

Still, she had nothing but enthusiasm for the idea of more familiar faces joining the series. The Gentlemen released its second season on Sept. 3, and Scodelario pointed to the show’s guest appearances as one of the things that makes it fun.

“I think what’s wonderful about our show is we have these characters pop up, and we get these great guest actors come in, sprinkle a little bit of their magic into the characters and make really memorable scenes about them, and it’s one of the things I love most about the show,” she said. “We have wonderful guest actors in season 2, but yeah, the more the merrier. Everyone come have a go. You guys, come have a go.”

Theo James also poked fun at the casting rumors, joking to Town & Country that “Fergie is joining. She’ll be playing my love interest,” referring to Sarah Ferguson. He then appeared to dismiss the speculation, adding, “I think that was mainly a lot of hot air.”

It was reported by PEOPLE previously that Meghan is in talks to appear in The Gentlemen, although no deal has been finalized. The outlet also recently learned that Meghan and Harry had discussed her acting comeback even before The Gentlemen talks emerged.

For now, though, Scodelario’s message is simple: whatever happens with Meghan’s casting, she isn’t the one deciding who gets the part.
