Jane Scher said she and her dog, Botox, struggled after the chaotic court-ordered sale of daughter Libbie Mugrabi’s Hamptons home.
Scher disputed reports about her behavior at the auction and said the confrontation left her deeply upset. She also claimed Botox had suffered from anxiety after the incident.
Jane Scher says Botox has suffered anxiety since Libbie Mugrabi’s chaotic court-ordered Hamptons mansion auction
The Hamptons mansion auction took place outside the Southampton courthouse after Mugrabi had to sell the property to satisfy a loan.
Scher said she attended to support her daughter. She denied using foul language and stressed that police never arrested her.
“I am saddened by the disinformation about my behavior when I never said any foul language, and I was never arrested,” she told Page Six.
Police gave a different account of the scene. The Southampton Police Department said Scher had disrupted the auction and acted loudly.
An officer said she “was asked to leave and she complied.”
Scher acknowledged that she left. However, she said the officer asked her to go because she was not bidding.
She also claimed another potential buyer called her a “lunatic” and repeatedly cursed at her.
“My dog and I were upset. We were both shaking like leaves. I was really upset. I was crying hysterically,” Jane Scher said.
Scher blamed the tense encounter for Botox’s dog anxiety.
At the same time, Mugrabi’s sister, Mia Rowe, tried to obtain a certified check to help save the property. Rowe reportedly returned without the check, and the auction continued.
Libbie Mugrabi did not attend the courthouse drama.
The mansion eventually sold for $5.864 million. Mugrabi had listed the property for $25 million in May.
Scher criticized the bidding process and said her family found it confusing. She claimed her daughter had outbid another buyer before the auction restarted.
“The unfortunate thing is the bidding process was unclear,” Scher said.
She also admitted she tried to delay the sale while Rowe went to the bank.
Despite losing the property, Scher said Mugrabi wanted to move forward.
“Libbie is ready for a fresh start, even if it means leaving her home behind,” she said.
