Royal commentator slams Prince Harry and Meghan Markle over their Meta statement
Soon after touching down in the UK, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle issued an official statement addressing the Meta lawsuit that claimed its platforms threaten child safety. In the statement, they expressed disappointment over Meta avoiding “accountability” by settling the lawsuit for $17.1 billion (via The Mirror).
The statement said, “By choosing to settle, the company paid to avoid yet another trial outcome that would force it into accountability. Because of the data-extraction business model Meta has used on our children and all users for years, it has more than the means to pay this settlement.” It also claimed that, according to reports, Meta will recover the equivalent of that payout in 30 days in profits.
The Daily Mail‘s Jan Moir criticized their statement in her new report. She wrote, “You have to laugh. It’s like Mickey and Minnie Mouse firing a peashooter at King Kong. The case has got nothing to do with the Sussexes, but they remain imbued with a mutual god complex and are secure in their own sense of importance.”
The British columnist added that the Sussexes’ goal is “nothing less than delivering us all from evil and making the world a better place, chiefly for themselves.” She continued, “Indeed, the Sussexes have spent the past six years campaigning for a fairer, greener world, a nirvana free from racism and snobbery.”
Elsewhere, she wrote, “One supposes this is great and grand hypocrisy of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in all its hard-boiled glory. They want it all, they want it now – with jam on.” Notably, the couple has advocated for children’s safety on social media on multiple occasions.
