Nicole Kidman embraced the uncertainty of life after her split from Keith Urban, admitting she had no idea what the future held but refused to close herself off. The actress, 59, said the painful transition left her vulnerable, yet she chose hope, family and the possibility of love as she entered her next chapter.
Kidman recently discussed her changing perspective while reflecting on the end of her 19-year marriage. She filed for divorce from Urban last September, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple reached a settlement in January that gave them shared custody of their daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith.
Nicole Kidman said she was keeping her heart open after the Keith Urban split
The split clearly forced the actress to rethink the future she had imagined. Rather than dwell on what went wrong, she said she focused on adapting to the life in front of her.
“I can still approach things intellectually. But my desire is not to be ruled by my head,” Kidman told British Vogue. “Trying things, making mistakes, failing, getting back up, moving on, embracing love, staying open, keeping the heart open and the possibilities.”
She admitted that the new reality initially frightened her.
“There was a point where I was very fearful and deeply vulnerable, which is exposing,” she said. “And then at the same time I’m going, ‘Well, I can either really not confront it and just curl up, or I can just go forward with an enormous amount of hope.’”
Kidman also acknowledged that her life no longer matched the picture she once had in mind.
“I didn’t expect this. I had a different view of what my life was going to be, but this is what it is now,” she said. “You have to adjust. You adapt. The future, it’s completely unknown to me right now.”
Her daughters remained her biggest priority. Kidman described family as an “extraordinary purpose” and said everything else became secondary to supporting her children.
The actress also appeared to leave the door open romantically. She recently sparked dating speculation after spending time with private equity executive Michael Reinstein, following sightings together in Portofino and Los Angeles.
For now, Kidman seemed less interested in defining her love life than discovering what came next. Her message remained simple: she had survived an unexpected ending and still chose to keep her heart open.
