Jenna Bush Hager does not hide from the fact that she comes from the privilege of being former POTUS George W. Bush’s daughter.
She confirms that her parentage has had a lot to do with her landing a job on The Today Show.
Jenna Bush Hager admits being George W. Bush’s daughter helped her get the opportunity
Jenna Bush has admitted that though the Today opportunity came to her from privilege, she has also worked hard to prove her mettle. She also recalled that having the strong nepo-baby label has been detrimental in many respects. She relates an incident when a correspondent disclosed, “We just thought they hired you because of your dad.”
Jenna said, “I’m sure — and I haven’t asked my boss, and I’d rather not — I got this interview… I was on the show because my dad was president.” Detailing how she was ahead of other aspirants, Jenna said, “I wrote a book in 2006. I was on the show. And then my mom and I wrote a book nine months later and she guest-hosted the 8. And so I was on, and then they kept calling.”
However, according to People, Jenna admitted that proving the naysayers wrong has been a big part of the job. She said on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, “It’s the thing that probably all of us can feel bad about but then what we do to get over that is work like crazy, work beyond to where we’re working ourselves too much.”
Speaking of what nepo babies encounter, Jenna revealed that it was “That’s everybody’s fear that has this,” when speaking of the mountain of expectations that children of famous parents face. The talk show host also confessed that at one time, she overworked to prove that she had it in her. In fact, she credits her work ethic as having trickled down to her children – Mila, 13, Poppy, 10, and son Hal, 6.
Speaking with pride, she praised her daughter Mila, who had worked during the summer. However, she also hopes that “I’m not imparting any sort of transference of that and overdoing it.”
