The Federal Bureau of Prisons lists Carmine’s release date as Sept. 2, 2027. That means he will spend nearly 13 months in prison instead of serving his original 15-month sentence. According to TMZ, Carmine pleaded guilty in 2024 to participating in a $1.1 million wire fraud scheme involving COVID-19 relief funds. He surrendered to federal authorities on Monday and entered the Federal Correctional Institution Fairton in Fairton, New Jersey.
Carmine was originally scheduled to report to prison on July 20. A judge granted him an extension so he could donate one of his kidneys to Victoria. However, Victoria developed an infection, and doctors postponed the planned surgery. Carmine received another extension, but Victoria still did not receive medical clearance for the procedure.
The judge later gave Carmine until Aug. 10 to donate his kidney before reporting to prison on Sept. 18. That plan also did not work out because Victoria was not medically cleared. On Monday, Carmine’s attorney, Robert Beltrani, filed court documents seeking another extension. The judge denied the request but delayed Carmine’s prison reporting time by two hours.
Carmine still faces the challenge of helping his mother while serving his sentence. TMZ cited sources who said he wanted to complete the kidney donation before entering prison because Victoria faces severe complications from kidney disease. The sources also said Carmine was not trying to avoid serving his sentence. Instead, they said he wanted to help his mother before beginning his time behind bars.
