Chris Brown was ordered to pay nearly $13 million to his former housekeeper for injuries she alleged were caused by a dog attack. According to TMZ, Brown and his company, Black Pyramid LLC, have filed a notice in a Los Angeles court. The singer is seeking a new trial following the judgment entered in the dog bite case on July 16, 2026.
The new filing argued that there should be a new trial, citing several reasons, including irregular proceedings, jury misconduct, insufficient evidence to justify the verdict, and excessive damages awarded to the plaintiff.
A hearing on the notice is scheduled for Sept. 22.
Former housekeeper Maria Avila filed a lawsuit over an alleged dog attack that she said took place in December 2020. She claimed that a dog named Hades attacked her while she was emptying the trash at the singer’s home. She said she was unaware that the 200-pound Caucasian Shepherd was at the property and alleged that the attack happened without warning. The lawsuit, filed in 2021 against Brown, claimed she suffered physical and emotional injuries as a result of the incident.
In July 2026, a judge ordered Brown to pay $12.9 million in damages to Avila.
If the request for a new trial is denied, Brown can appeal the judgment. If it is granted, the case will proceed to a new trial.
The lawsuit has drawn widespread attention since the jury awarded millions in damages to Avila. Brown’s latest filing adds another development to the ongoing legal battle as he seeks to overturn the verdict.
Neither Brown nor Avila has publicly commented on the new filing.
