Tony Romo has been placed on leave by CBS Sports following his recent arrest on suspicion of Operating While Intoxicated (OWI).
The decision comes days after the Dallas Cowboys quarterback was taken into custody.

According to TMZ Sports, CBS Sports has put Romo “on leave” until further notice. The leave announcement follows the player’s OWI arrest in Wisconsin.
Romo was driving south on Interstate 43 on Thursday when he was stopped and pulled over. According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office’s arrest report, Romo did not meet the parameters of the sobriety test and was taken into custody. He had earlier denied consuming alcohol before leaving the golf course. The former player also said that he was driving up to see his grandparents.
The police proceeded with the arrest, also noting that there was an open container of alcohol beside him, according to Reuters. While Romo has not commented on the incident, TMZ reports that he had also withdrawn from a scheduled appearance at a golf tournament in Texas following the arrest.
Romo’s arrest has also put a pause on his role as CBS Sports’ lead NFL analyst. He has held this position since 2017 alongside veteran announcer Jim Nantz. The duo is known for covering marquee NFL broadcasts and Super Bowls.
The former quarterback spent his entire 14-year career with the Dallas Cowboys before retiring in 2017. He has also made four Pro Bowl appearances during his career, which spanned 2004-2016.
He took up the position as CBS Sports’ lead NFL analyst the same year. Here he replaced Phil Simms, who served in the same position.
He has a court appearance set for Sept. 21.
