Tony Romo withdrew from the Texas State Open following his recent legal incident
Romo withdrew from the 56th M&P Group Texas State Open, as confirmed by Cascades Country Club to KETK News. The tournament was scheduled to begin Monday and continue through Friday. Romo had been expected to participate in the annual Tyler competition.
The withdrawal also resulted in the cancellation of his scheduled Monday Q&A session. A country club spokesperson confirmed the change in an email. “Although we’re disappointed he won’t be joining us, we’re still looking forward to an exciting week of competitive golf,” the email read.
Romo’s decision came shortly after his arrest in Milwaukee, according to reports. Authorities arrested and released him Friday following a first-offense operating while intoxicated charge. The incident reportedly occurred after police stopped him while driving south on I-43.
According to WISN, the arrest report said Romo performed poorly on field sobriety tests. Police reportedly stopped him around 8 p.m. Thursday during the traffic incident. The arrest marked a recent legal development for the former Cowboys quarterback.
Romo remains a regular contender at the Texas State Open. He played two rounds last year before missing the cut. He shot 69 in the opening round and followed with a 76.
The tournament is organized by the Northern Texas section of the PGA of America. It has been held in Tyler since 2018. Romo’s withdrawal means he will not compete during this year’s event.
Romo also continues working as a color analyst for CBS’s lead NFL broadcast team. The former quarterback spent his entire NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys. He retired from professional football following the 2016 season.
