Kelly Clarkson’s Off-Script Moments Allegedly Frustrated NBC Execs — Source

Kelly Clarkson’s quick wit reportedly entertained audiences throughout her time on television. A new insider claimed her unscripted style also frustrated NBC executives behind the scenes.

Those claims surfaced shortly after Clarkson joked about her former employer during her Las Vegas residency. Fans laughed along, but the comments reportedly reflected familiar workplace dynamics.

An insider account shares Kelly’s unscripted approach created challenges at NBC

According to the Daily Mail, Clarkson’s July 17 Las Vegas comments echoed familiar backstage tensions. The insider claimed producers and executives regularly dealt with her unscripted approach on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

While interacting with fans, Clarkson briefly stroked someone’s jacket before joking, “I would get fired at NBC, but I don’t work there anymore.” She followed the remark with another punchline that drew loud cheers. “No more HR meetings!” Clarkson told the audience.

An insider claimed those jokes reflected a recurring issue behind the scenes.“Kelly’s comments come as no surprise to those who were aware of what was going on behind the scenes,” the source said. The insider added that meetings involving executives and human resources became a routine part of the job.

According to the source, producers expected Clarkson to stick closely to the show’s rundown. Instead, she often let conversations unfold naturally.“She had to stick to the script to a certain extent, but most of the time would actually go off script — and then she’d hear it from producers afterwards,” the insider alleged.

Despite those reported challenges, the source insisted Clarkson remained popular with her colleagues.“It’s not easy for anyone to take on this role but she did a great job and everyone who worked with her really did enjoy working with her,” the insider said.

The source also described Clarkson as genuine and approachable.“Just like they say — you can take the girl out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the girl,” the insider added. “That was very much Kelly.”

Months before launching her residency, Clarkson announced that she would leave The Kelly Clarkson Show. She thanked NBC, her crew, guests, and viewers in an Instagram post before explaining that she wanted to spend more time with her children following the 2025 death of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock.

During her residency, Clarkson also joked about dating. “There are a lot of people out here making single look real good,” she told the crowd.
