The on-air kiss happened during Wednesday’s, July 22, episode of The View, when Star Trek: Strange New Worlds actor Mount stopped by to greet the panel. After Mount, 53, hugged Behar and kissed her cheek, the 83-year-old comedian requested a kiss on the lips.
She then pulled him in for a lengthier kiss that left her red lipstick smeared visibly across his face. The studio audience responded with a mix of cheers and laughter, while some of Behar’s co-hosts, including Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines and Sunny Hostin, appeared surprised.
Following the awkward incident, Behar drew cheers and laughter from the audience by joking, “I’m old, but I’m not dead.”
Goldberg jumped into the fun, asking Behar if she was “okay.” Behar kept the banter going by adding, “I need a little bit of a touch-up”. The cheeky interaction didn’t stop there; Behar recalled an earlier show where Mount brought her birthday flowers, joking that “it’s never been the same between us.”
Mount also played along. He cheekily reminded the 83-year-old co-host that he had “got married” since his previous appearance on the show in 2014.
Though the panel turned it into a running joke throughout the interview, not everyone found the moment amusing. Many viewers took to social media arguing the prolonged embrace crossed a line, with some even calling the kiss “disgusting.”
Mount later revealed that his wife, Darah Trang, thought the moment was “hilarious.” Both Behar and Mount are married. Behar has been with her husband Steve Janowitz since 2011; Mount has been married to photographer Darah Trang since 2018.
