Sharon Stone Says Quitting Weed Left Her Sick for Weeks

Sharon Stone says her decision to stop using marijuana came with an unexpected physical toll. The “Basic Instinct” star recalled feeling ill for about a month as she worked toward what she called a drug-free life.

Sharon describes becoming ill for weeks after she stopped using marijuana

Stone discussed the experience in a new Variety interview. She said the decision followed a difficult effort to stop taking medication that doctors prescribed after her near-fatal 2001 stroke.

The actor said she stopped one stroke medication in September 2025 despite warnings that she should continue taking it. Stone compared the experience to “going off of f—ing heroin” and said she felt sick for four and a half months.

After that ordeal, Stone decided to quit smoking weed. “When I stopped smoking pot, I also got sick,” she said. She added that she remained “pretty sick for a month.”

Stone suspected that additives in modern marijuana contributed to her reaction. However, she did not share a diagnosis or offer medical evidence that connected a particular substance to her symptoms. Her comments described her own experience rather than a universal result.

The actor also discussed the decision with her neurologist. According to Stone, the doctor encouraged her to stay away from marijuana. She now wants to maintain what she described as a “drug-free life.”

Stone’s account carries added weight because she survived a brain hemorrhage and stroke in 2001. She spent years rebuilding her health and has often spoken candidly about that period. More recently, she recalled a physical attack that caused lasting injuries.

The Oscar nominee has also continued revisiting the work that made her famous. She recently reflected on the leg-crossing scene in “Basic Instinct” and explained why she now fast-forwards modern television sex scenes.

Despite the difficult withdrawal experiences, Stone said the past year helped her reclaim her life. She continues acting, painting and spending time with her three sons. Her story remains personal, but it shows how seriously she approached changing her health and daily habits.
