Comedian and famously “anti-Trump” Bill Maher on Sunday brutally slammed his own Democratic Party and its socialist wing. He then went on to hint that he might vote for Vice President JD Vance in the upcoming 2028 elections—a candidate many Democrats wouldn’t expect.
Bill Maher delivered a harsh critique of ‘woke’ Democrats before discussing his views on JD Vance.
The 70-year-old comedian, an open critic of Trump, has frequently voiced frustration with the Democratic Party’s “woke” ideology and recent shift to the far-left. He pointed it out as a growing pattern within the party.
During a Sunday, July 19, appearance on ABC News‘ “This Week,” the “Real Time” host, Bill Maher, told anchor Jonathan Karl that the Democratic Party is being “taken over” by its more progressive wing. He told Karl that he’d abandon the party if its “communist” wing took over.
“Democrats are cowardly—they’re cowardly,” he told the co-anchor. “Their party is being taken over now by, you know, every day I hear about a new very radical.” He also said in the interview that he lost fans years ago for refusing to go along with what he called “crazy stuff on the left.”
The anti-Trump comedian further admitted that he is willing to offer support to a Republican candidate, JD Vance, in 2028. Maher made similar remarks during a June 27 interview with Vice President JD Vance on his “Real Time” show, where he first suggested his “vote could be in play” for the 2028 elections. “My vote is in play [in 2028] because it can’t be Trump running, so I’m not living in communist America,” he had said.
Maher’s comments have sparked a range of reactions online. Some are praising him for what they see as political independence, while others are accusing him of drifting rightward in recent years.
