Australian PM Anthony Albanese is facing online backlash after making remarks about singer Kylie Minogue during a podcast appearance. The comments quickly went viral, prompting widespread criticism and a public apology from the prime minister.
Anthony Albanese apologized after his Kylie Minogue podcast remarks triggered backlash across Australia
The Australian PM was seen on the Bush Deep podcast, where he made comments about the singer. Comedian Nikki Osborne, host, asked the PM to choose from Nicole Kidman, Rhonda Burchmore, or Kylie Minogue.
In a rapid fire, she asked, “Shag, marry, date, Kylie Minogue, Nicole Kidman, or Ronda Burchmore.” To which Albanese replied, “I’ve just got married. I’m only 6 months in.” Osborne added, “Well, if it goes tits up, let’s just pretend.” Albanese responded with “Oh, Kylie.” He took the singer’s name for all of it: shag, marry, and date. Soon after the podcast went live, it went viral among internet users who called out the PM.
Senator Sarah Henderson took to her X account, calling it embarrassing and disrespectful. She added, “Anthony Albanese’s whisky-fuelled comments on the ‘Deep Bush’ podcast are disrespectful to women, embarrassing to Australians and demean the office of Prime Minister.”
One X user wrote, “He really is this stupid??.” Another X user said, “Very disappointing showing such poor judgment to participate in such a stupid ‘game,’ especially as he got so caught out last time. I’m a bit gobsmacked, actually, and I don’t agree with the comments here saying it’s nothing. I think it’s time for Jim to take over the leadership.”
The Australian PM appeared on CNN and apologised for his comments. He said, “I apologise unequivocally for the comments.” He stated his office after the backlash. Albanese has apologised, while Minogue has not made any public comment on the controversy.
