Dolly Parton Spotted on First Public Outing Since Las Vegas Residency Cancellation

Dolly Parton made her first public appearance since canceling her Las Vegas residency due to health reasons. The country music icon surprised fans on June 24 at the grand opening of her new venture, Dolly’s Tennessean Travel Stop, a gas station and restaurant.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the 80-year-old told attendees during her surprise appearance, “I’m sure some of you are wondering why I wanted a truck stop.”Well, I couldn’t leave it to beavers! I had to throw my scrawny little self in there. We’re not trying to compete with anybody. We don’t think we’ll have to. We think we’re going to have everything that you want or need.”

The website describes Parton’s new business as “a place where you’re greeted not just with fuel and food, but with warmth, comfort, and a little sparkle of Dolly Parton magic. No matter how far you’ve traveled, you’ll feel right at home here.” The Queen of Country is also behind the Dollywood theme park and a variety of other businesses, including hotels, wine, and baking mixes.

Her appearance comes almost two months after she canceled her residency, citing health challenges. The six-show run, first planned for December 2025 and then postponed to September 2026, was ultimately canceled to prioritize the singer’s recovery.

In an Instagram video in May, Parton said, as per The Guardian, that although she is responding well to treatment and improving daily, it will take time before she is ready for stage performances. Parton explained that her treatments have made her feel “swimmy-headed,” leaving her unable to perform safely in her signature high heels. She compared herself to “an old classic car” that would be “better than ever” once restored.

The musical icon, who has won 10 Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, ranked first in a YouGov poll of the world’s most favorable public figures in April, surpassing Barack Obama and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, reports The Guardian. According to the Grammy, Parton’s seven-decade career includes nearly 3,000 songwriting credits.
