J.D. Vance’s Latest Book Allegedly Targets Religious Conservative Base

The subject of Vice President JD Vance’s new book and other activities has triggered widespread speculation that he is supposedly trying to use faith as a political weapon to strengthen his position among religious conservatives, likely aiming for the 2028 Presidential race.  

The 304-page memoir, “Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith”, chronicles Vance’s journey from the Christianity of his childhood, through a period of atheism, to his conversion to Catholicism in 2019.

Christopher Devine, a vice-presidential scholar at the University of Dayton, believes that there is some good reason, especially if Vance has future political ambitions, “and he likely does, to want to create his own narrative about himself, who he is as an individual, and not just as subordinate to the President.” 

And that’s exactly what Vance is likely doing. The book is set for release on June 16— the same day that Second Lady Usha Vance is set to launch a children’s story podcast. Is the couple pitching themselves as a religious conservative family?  

According to Boston University presidential historian Thomas Whalen, the book is likely part of a strategic effort to court religious conservatives ahead of a potential 2028 presidential campaign. “There are no coincidences in politics, particularly presidential [politics],” Whalen said

Opponents accused him of showing double standards. Jack Schlossberg, running for Congress in New York, wrote: “As Jesus famously said: ‘Show me your papers,’ ‘stop being poor,’ ‘Bombs away!'”

The book’s cover initially sparked controversy, with social media users noting that the church pictured is Methodist, not Catholic, despite the book’s Catholic framing. However, publisher HarperCollins’ spokesperson Tina Andreadis said that he “talks about Christianity in an
