Wayne Rooney Laid the Smack Down on WWE Star Wade Barrett in Manchester

Wayne Rooney appeared on WWE RAW in Manchester on Monday night, attending the event with his son and watching all the action from the front row.

However, during a match between Sheamus and Cesaro, the Manchester United captain became embroiled in an altercation with WWE star Wade Barrett, who had appeared at ringside. After Barrett, who hails from England and supports Preston North End, goaded Rooney by initially claiming that he didn’t want to “embarrass” the England international in front of his son, before adding that Rooney “experiences that every time [he] steps on a football pitch.”

Barrett later confronted Rooney, with the striker slapping the WWE Superstar around the face.

Watch the hilarious moment in the video below (skip to around the 4:00 mark):

Barrett later spoke to Renee Young about the incident backstage, saying: “If he wants to come to my home on RAW and start trouble, then tomorrow I’m going to go to his home, Old Trafford, and settle this once and for all.”

Of course, what with this being pro wrestling, the whole event was (unfortunately) staged and so we aren’t going to see a street fight between Wayne Rooney and Wade Barrett at any point in the near future. Still, it seems that the duo are looking to keep this “feud” going, and we look forward to seeing how many feeble slaps Rooney can keep delivering to the grappler.
