Sizzl Promises True Love for Bacon Lovers

According to an article in AdWeek, luncheon giant Oscar Mayer launched, via 360i, a dating app aimed directly at bacon lovers. The app, called Sizzl, is constructed similarly to Tinder, but instead of swiping left and right, you hold down a “heat meter” to indicate your level of interest. Profiles are, naturally, centered on the user’s love of bacon and bacon products. Know, casual bacon-lovers, that you will likely have to list more than your usual “I heart bacon.” It may help the discerning single men and women if you list a type of curing and preparation.

This is not the first time Oscar Mayer has launched a tech-related bacon campaign. Last year, the company gave away bacon-scented smartphone widgets (no lie) with their “Wake Up and Smell the Bacon” campaign.

I understand the appeal of such products for bacon-lovers, but I don’t understand why Oscar Mayer needs to be so aggressive, as most every carnivore I know has an open and professed love of bacon. I suppose Sizzl, then, might just be an app designed to weed out vegans and vegetarians. Or will just lead to numerous bacon-themed dates, which is a realm of possibilities open to interpretation.
