Watch The First Trailer For The Supergirl TV Series

Earlier today, CBS announced that Supergirl will be airing next fall on Monday nights at 8pm opposite Gotham on Fox. While Gotham has been one of Fox’s bigger hits, it’s also managed to alienate hardcore comic fans with its poor execution of the Batman mythos.

In theory, Supergirl should at least be better than Gotham. The Flash and Arrow executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg are behind the Supergirl TV series, and at first glance, it embraces its superhero side more than Smallville did.

However, the first trailer for Supergirl is a little painful to sit through. Get ready for some amazingly awkward dialogue and painful exposition as Kara (Melissa Benoist) meets Jimmy Olson (Mehcad Brooks) for the first time and Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) defends the name “Supergirl” for National City’s newest heroine.

What is with the House of El and falling airplanes?

As you might have guessed, the six and a half minute trailer appears to have covered most of the major plot points for the Supergirl pilot. There’s always the hope that the weekly series could be better, but we’ll have to wait until November before we can fully pass judgement on Supergirl.
