Margaret And David Will Finish ‘At The Movies’ This Year

The ABC have announced that Margaret Pomeranz and David Stratton will be concluding their film review television series “At The Movies” in December this year and the series will not return in 2015.

After 28 years on screen together the pair will record the final episode of the show on December 9th 2014. They have been with the broadcaster since 2004, arriving from SBS where they hosted “The Movie Show” for 18 years.

In a partnership that’s lasted well-longer than most marriages, the names Margaret and David have become synonymous with cinema in Australia and their trusted movie reviewers and witty repartee have also enjoyed an envious reputation abroad.

“After 28 years reviewing films on television with Margaret, ten of them at the ABC, I feel it’s time to go. We’ve had a wonderful time, thanks to very supportive and encouraging audiences, throughout that period,” said David.

“Most of all, working with Margaret, whose enthusiasm, commitment and passion has been amazing (and only occasionally irritating) has been a joy for over a quarter of a century. But, since I turned 75 last week, I look forward to less pressure and more opportunities to enjoy the movies I love, in the years ahead.”

Margaret adds, “My gratitude goes to David who gave me credibility just by being prepared to sit by me and discuss film when I am just a film enthusiast, not the great walking encyclopedia of film that he is. He’s a grand person, a most generous, decent man, even if a little stubborn at times.”

Margaret also gave fans hope by saying she is looking forward to continuing her involvement in Australian film. “We’ve seen Australian films continue to mature over nearly three decades on air and I look forward to a continued involvement in this wonderful industry of ours which explores and reflects our culture and our peccadilloes.”

ABC Managing Director, Mark Scott thanked the pair for their “passionate and enthusiastic championing of the cinema art form” and their contribution to the Australia arts community. He gave them five stars.

UPDATE 16/09/14: The pair have since released a farewell message via YouTube, thanking fans for their support. You can watch that below.
