CES 2014: Chevys Get High-Speed 4G LTE Connections

It used to be that when you talked about how fast your car was you meant the 0-60 time, not how fast it can pull data off the Interwebs.

But this summer, that’s going to change. Chevrolet has announced at CES this week, many of the vehicles in their 2015 line up will come optionally equipped with a built-in, high-speed, OnStar 4G LTE hotspot. Running on AT&T’s network, with the ability to handle multiple devices at one time, the OnStar 4G LTE will let you and your passengers connect smartphones, laptops and tablets to high-speed wireless internet without relying on a brought-in mobile device.

You can turn your car into a rolling mobile hub, giving you easier access to apps and services that require a high speed cellular or data connection.

The first vehicles in the Chevy line to get outfitted with the OnStar 4G LTE hotspot are the 2015 Corvette, Impala, Malibu, and Volt. Later on, the Equinox, Silverado, Silverado HD, Spark and Spark EV will offer the option as well.

Chevy says they will announce more models later this year.
