Home Alone is no. 1 on Disney+

Home Alone, the beloved holiday classic starring Catherine O’Hara, has climbed to the No. 1 spot on Disney+ in the United States, knocking Dwayne Johnson’s remake of Moana off the top position.

According to FlixPatrol, the 1990 comedy topped Disney+’s Top 10 Movies chart on November 5, 2026. It outperformed several other popular titles, including Coco, Moana, Toy Story 5, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Monsters, Inc.

Directed by Chris Columbus and written by John Hughes, Home Alone premiered in theaters on November 16, 1990. Its success eventually spawned a franchise that has since expanded to include five sequels.

The story follows eight-year-old Kevin McCallister, whose family’s Christmas vacation to Paris takes an unexpected turn when they accidentally leave him behind. After getting into a fight with his older brother, Buzz, Kevin is sent to his room. However, amid the family’s chaotic morning preparations, everyone forgets about him and heads to the airport without him.

Initially, Kevin relishes his newfound freedom, enjoying pizza, exploring the house, and making the most of his unexpected time alone. However, his holiday takes a dangerous turn when he discovers that two burglars, Harry and Marv, are planning to rob his home on Christmas Eve. Determined to protect the property, Kevin comes up with an elaborate plan involving household items and a series of ingenious traps to stop the intruders.

Despite becoming a holiday staple, Home Alone received a somewhat mixed response from critics. The film currently holds a 66% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 116 reviews. Audiences have been considerably more enthusiastic, giving the comedy a higher score of 81%.
