Megyn Kelly Says GOP Must Learn to Win Without ‘Daddy’ Trump

The Republican Party is facing renewed questions about its future after disappointing midterm election results. Conservative commentator Megyn Kelly argued that the party should use the losses as an opportunity to rebuild without relying so heavily on President Donald Trump. Her remarks came as Democrats regained control of both chambers of Congress, prompting debate over the GOP’s direction ahead of the next election cycle.

Megyn Kelly calls for a Republican Party less dependent on Donald Trump

On the latest episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, the host reflected on the Republican Party’s performance in the midterms. She said the election results should prompt party leaders to reassess their political strategy. “This morning, the Republican Party is in ruins. And maybe it needed to be,” Kelly said. She added that Republicans now need to “reflect, rebuild, and reinvent in the image of no man.”

Kelly argued that the GOP must become less dependent on Donald Trump. “They’re going to have to learn how to win without daddy on the ballot,” she said. Kelly also urged Republicans to “find their ethical center” instead of acting as “puppets of Trump’s.”

The political commentator said voters wanted Congress to function more independently from the White House. Citing exit polling, she claimed many Americans felt lawmakers were not doing enough to act as a constitutional check on presidential power. Kelly also suggested dissatisfaction crossed party and demographic lines. She argued that Republicans had lost the confidence of many voters, regardless of age, race, or political affiliation.

According to The Hill, Kelly has become increasingly critical of Trump in recent months, particularly over the administration’s handling of the Iran war and its economic impact. The publication also reported that several prominent Republicans pointed to the conflict as a key factor behind the party’s poor midterm performance. Specifically, Vice President JD Vance and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis shared this view.

Kelly also reacted to Trump’s post-election Truth Social message, saying that while he remains president, the election results showed Republicans could no longer build their political identity solely around him. She argued the party must redefine itself if it hopes to regain voters’ confidence in future elections.
