Donald Trump Knew Iran War Would Hurt Him Politically, Claims Lara Trump

Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, says the president knowingly accepted the political risks of attacking Iran. She defended his decision despite the damage it caused Republicans in the midterm election. Lara argued that Trump put American security ahead of his party’s chances at the polls.

Speaking on Fox News’ Fox & Friends, Lara Trump praised her father-in-law for taking action despite knowing it could hurt his party at the polls. The host, who is married to Eric Trump, said the president deserved credit for making what he believed was the right choice for the country (via The Daily Beast).

“He knew that this would be politically disadvantageous for him,” she said, describing the conflict as a “political loser” for Trump. Lara argued that he went ahead because he believed the move would protect Americans. She also criticized previous presidents for repeatedly delaying action against Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

The midterm results delivered a clear warning sign for the administration. A CNBC survey found that 74% of voters said the war weighed heavily on their choices at the ballot box. Democrats rode that frustration to majorities in both chambers. Skyrocketing fuel costs and stubborn inflation only added more fuel to voters’ anger.

Vice President JD Vance pointed to the conflict and its impact on prices as the main reason for the Republican setback in a post on X (formerly Twitter). Trump later told reporters that Vance was “probably” right. The president also stood by the decision, saying, “If I had to do it again, I would do it again.” Trump argued that preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon was the only “long-term answer.”

The conflict has also brought serious consequences beyond U.S. politics. Iran seized control of the Strait of Hormuz, a major route for global oil shipments. Iranian forces and allied militias have targeted U.S. troops and regional partners. This has left 23 American service members dead and 865 injured.
