The next Gambit may play a bigger role in the MCU‘s Mutant Saga than expected. While Marvel Studios currently has Channing Tatum play the Cajun mutant, a new rumor suggests he will be replaced soon after Avengers: Doomsday.
Scooper James Mack claimed in a now-deleted post that Marvel is planning to use a new Gambit in its upcoming saga. “The new Gambit will also have a prominent role,” he wrote in a new social media post.
The rumor doesn’t reveal other details. It should be noted that this is just a rumor, and Marvel Studios has yet to comment on their validity. The upcoming X-Men reboot has yet to cast or announce plans for Gambit.

What have we seen Channing Tatum’s Gambit do in the MCU so far?
Tatum’s Gambit has had a long and complicated journey to the big screen. After years of campaigning for the role, he made his Gambit debut in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine. The actor was previously set to play Gambit in the early 2010s. In Deadpool & Wolverine, Gambit fought alongside the titular heroes against Cassandra Nova’s forces inside the Void. Tatum will reprise the role in Avengers: Doomsday, though it’s unclear what role he will play.
Tatum recently hinted at his Gambit belonging to the same timeline as the original X-Men films. The character also shared the screen with the Fantastic Four’s H.E.R.B.I.E. in a recent commercial. Tatum’s Gambit is the first live-action portrayal of the character to feature his signature costume and accent.
Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot has already recast multiple mainstays, including Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Professor X. The upcoming film is scheduled to release in 2028.
Avengers: Doomsday releases in theaters on December 18, 2026.
