Clive Owen’s new Holocaust movie is heading to theaters soon. The film centers on one of the darkest chapters in human history, dramatizing the events surrounding the night of violence.
Quiver Distribution will release The Night of Broken Glass in theaters on January 29, 2027. It is a historical thriller based on the true events of Kristallnacht, which took place in November 1938.
The Night of Broken Glass is directed by Stefan Ruzowitzky. His 2007 drama, The Counterfeiters, won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Meanwhile, Jonathan Frank, Scott Mann, Uli Edel and Julius Grützke have penned the screenplay.
In addition to Owen, the movie also stars Inglourious Basterds star Mélanie Laurent and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare actor Alex Pettyfer.
The star-studded cast brings a harrowing true story to the screen
Based on the events of Kristallnacht, The Night of Broken Glass is set in Berlin in November 1938. The Nazi Party launches a violent attack on the Jewish population, following the assassination of a German diplomat in Paris. As the Nazi mob wreaks havoc on Jewish neighborhoods and synagogues, Police Lieutenant Wilhelm Krützfeld (Owen) and his partner, Kai Lehmann (Pettyfer), investigate the murder of a Jewish doctor amid the chaos.
“With orders to stand down as the city descends into violence, Krützfeld finds himself increasingly torn between his duty to the regime and his own sense of right and wrong. Over the course of one harrowing night, he must confront his conscience, find the courage to act on his convictions and decide whether he is willing to risk everything to do what is right,” the official synopsis adds.
“The Night of Broken Glass is a powerful and gripping film about a defining moment in history, and the courage it takes to stand against injustice,” Quiver co-presidents Jeff Sackman and Berry Meyerowitz said in a statement. “With antisemitism once again on the rise around the world, this story feels particularly urgent and relevant,” they added.
