Chris Rock has opened up about a difficult period in his life. The comedian discussed his past struggles with porn addiction in a new interview. He also compared the experience to a Marvel movie and explained how it changed his perspective.
In a GQ interview, Rock used superhero stories to explain how he came to understand his own limits. He said, “It’s like you watch a Marvel movie, and the guy, he has to test his powers. You know what I mean? Every Marvel movie, man or woman, they have to test their powers. They’re assholes. They get these powers and they’re assholes, and they’re racing trains and they’re lifting up ocean liners and they try to go to the sun, then they crash down because they realize they’re not God.”
Rock then connected that lesson to his own experience, adding, “I tested my powers. I definitely realized I wasn’t God or anywhere near him, and I was severely humbled, as I should have been.” The comparison illustrated how he now views his past choices.
What else did Chris Rock say about his previous porn addiction?
In the same interview, Rock also spoke directly about his past behavior. He said, “I was not a great husband. I watched a lot of porn. I don’t watch porn anymore. I haven’t watched porn in five, six years.” He admitted he was not “proud” of that period but described it as something he had to go through.
Rock had also discussed the addiction in his 2018 Netflix comedy special Tamborine. He described how his viewing habits affected his expectations over time. He said, “When you start watching porn, any porn’ll do. ‘Ah, they’re naked. Woo-hoo.’ Then, later on, you’re all f–ked up.”
The comedian also explained how his preferences had changed. He added, “I was so f—ed up, I needed an Asian girl with a black girl’s a– that speaks Spanish just to get my d–k to move an inch. I’m a lot better now.” In the same special, he also described becoming “sexually autistic” and “desensitized” through his porn use.
