Netflix subscribers will lose access to Rockstar Games‘ original Western open-world game shortly after GTA 6 arrives. The streamer has announced that subscribers will no longer be able to play Red Dead Redemption after December 2, 2026. The game first became available to Netflix subscribers last year after its arrival on mobile.
This isn’t the first time a Rockstar game has been added to and later removed from Netflix. Previously, Netflix added three classic GTA games to its service under a one-year contract. The service also debuted GTA 6’s first official gameplay footage exclusively before its YouTube premiere. A Netflix representative earlier said that games are removed from the service as their licenses expire (via What’s On Netflix).

John Marston’s original adventure finally made its way to mobile
The original Red Dead Redemption was released on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2010. The critically acclaimed game remained exclusive to the seventh-generation consoles until its enhanced version was released in 2024. The mobile version features mobile-friendly controls, making John Marston’s adventure portable for millions of players.
Red Dead Redemption follows former outlaw John Marston as he hunts down members of his old gang in the early 1900s. The game was a striking departure from the usual Rockstar affair, while still retaining its focus on immersing players in an open world. It received a prequel in 2018, which was also critically acclaimed.
Rockstar currently has four of its games available on mobile. The developer has not released mobile versions of GTA 5 or Red Dead Redemption 2. According to previous reports, Red Dead Redemption’s mobile port was a major success. The game reportedly surpassed 3.3 million installs in just over five weeks and later crossed 10 million downloads. Mobile players will still be able to buy the game through a separate purchase on the Play Store and App Store.
GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026.
