Kyle MacLachlan may be ready to bring Trey MacDougal back to the screen. The actor, who played Charlotte York’s ex-husband on Sex and the City, did not reprise his role in “And Just Like That.” However, he has now expressed interest in returning to the franchise.
Kyle MacLachlan is eager to return as Charlotte York’s ex-husband
According to E! Online, MacLachlan expressed his interest in returning to the franchise while attending Heidi Klum’s Halloween party in New York City on October 31. The 67-year-old actor attended the event alongside his son, Callum.
Asked whether he would consider playing Trey again in a future installment, MacLachlan responded, “Oh, would I ever! Absolutely.” “Trey has to come back,” he added.
MacLachlan suggested that Trey’s story was far from over, saying the character has “unfinished business.” He also said a comeback would be fun.
The actor even joked that he could “start some vicious rumors” about a new spinoff series. MacLachlan continued teasing fans, saying, “It’s going to happen, very, very soon.” He also acknowledged that his remarks could make headlines and become the logline for a potential project.
MacLachlan last portrayed Trey in 2002, following his run as Charlotte’s first husband. However, the actor still has fond memories of his time on the show, particularly working with Kristin Davis.
“I think working with Kristin Davis is one of my [favorites]. We had a really wonderful run. I love her dearly, and she’s so wonderful. And so anytime working with her was special,” he said.
Although an on-screen reunion remains unconfirmed, MacLachlan and Davis have stayed in touch.
Speaking about his former co-star, MacLachlan said, “I still see her occasionally.” He also mentioned maintaining connections with other people involved in the franchise.
“Occasionally I see Chris [Noth] out and about. [Showrunner] Michael Patrick King and then we’re good friends with Darren Starr, who was the original creator of it. So, we stay in touch with a few of them,” he continued.
Sex and the City originally aired on HBO from 1998 to 2004. Following two film adaptations in 2008 and 2010, the franchise returned with the revival series And Just Like That in December 2021.
The revival concluded on August 14, 2025. Although no new installment has been announced, MacLachlan has made it clear that he would welcome another opportunity to play Trey MacDougal.
