Following the box office success of Obsession, director Curry Barker has revealed that he hopes to release a longer version of the horror film. The proposed edition would include approximately 20 minutes of additional footage left out of the theatrical cut. Barker also expressed his satisfaction with the film’s theatrical edit.
Obsession has a 20-minute longer extended version
Director Curry Barker has said he would like to release an extended edition of Obsession featuring approximately 20 minutes of footage that did not appear in the theatrical version. Speaking to Rolling Stone, he confirmed that he has enough additional material for a longer cut. However, he expressed his satisfaction with the film as it currently stands.
“I think I’m pretty happy with the cut right now. There’s not things I would change with the footage that I have. But I would say there’s a longer version of the movie that I would love to release for sure,” Barker said.
When asked about the length of the proposed edition, Barker estimated that it would add around 20 minutes to the film. He also clarified, “Probably like 20 minutes longer. I think the movies is the director’s cut. I really do. I did whatever I wanted for the most part. So, I would say that I’m pretty happy with the cut.”
The extended edition would include footage Barker chose not to use in the theatrical release. He has not revealed the scenes that could be added. He has also yet to confirm when the longer version might become available. The film’s original cut runs for 109 minutes and marked its theatrical release in May 2026.
Obsession went on to become the second-highest-grossing original horror film in history, behind The Sixth Sense. The achievement marked a significant theatrical success for Barker, who previously built his career as a YouTube content creator. The film was his second feature-length project and his first to receive a theatrical release through a major studio.
