King Charles is facing calls to modernize his outreach to the youth population after a poll flagged lower support. The suggestion comes from an expert during the reigning monarch’s nine-day Caribbean tour. Queen Camilla joined him in Antigua for the final leg, with the trip set to conclude on November 4, 2026.
King Charles asked to change his approach as poll shows low numbers
Pressure mounts on King Charles to rethink his approach as his popularity hits a four-year low. A new poll shows that support has fallen to its lowest since he ascended the throne, with pressure mounting to connect more effectively with younger generations.
A YouGov survey indicates that positive sentiment for the King has dropped to 58 percent. Meanwhile, negative views have climbed three points to 34 percent, tying the highest recorded during his reign.
Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle, royal commentator Sharon Williams explained that the shift may have little to do with Charles personally. She said, “He and the rest of the paired back Royals are working as hard as ever, and between the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and Princess Anne, and Prince and Princess of Wales, the calendars are full of engagements.”
The expert further noted, “He is a career diplomat, and as head of the Commonwealth, in spite of mumblings, the Caribbean current tour looks to be going well thus far – plus his health and energy levels look good.”
As for why Charles’ popularity has dipped, Williams observed that it could be a case of the public getting “tired of the news cycle as opposed to tired of the King.” After all, there has been a steady stream of headlines since YouGov’s last poll earlier this year, a narrative the commentator believes may be shaping the figures.
Despite that, she suggested that Buckingham Palace needs to do more to connect with the public. The royal analyst argued, “It’s a continual comms narrative to build an understanding of the King’s role and what he does for the United Kingdom. There is an opportunity to target the younger generations coming through, but it won’t be long before Prince George will be aligning with them.”
