Liam Neeson Reveals Bizarre Problem That Nearly Ruined His New Movie

Liam Neeson is known for his dramatic performances and action-packed films. The actor is now promoting his latest action thriller, The Mongoose. However, the actor recently revealed how an unexpected problem complicated filming in Australia.

Liam Neeson says kangaroos complicated scenes for The Mongoose in Australia

The 74-year-old recently spoke exclusively with People alongside his director and longtime stunt double. During the interview, they discussed the challenges of filming The Mongoose in Australia. Neeson explained that kangaroos posed an unexpected safety concern during the production.

Neeson said, “We saw a lot of them (Kangaroos), yeah. Especially at dusk, driving back from set. It could be very dangerous. You don’t know when they’re going to hop across the road.”

“We had a track that we were doing some of the car action on, and the kangaroos were everywhere. So we had to watch out for them and make sure they didn’t hop in front of the vehicles while we were shooting,” Stunt double cum director Mark Vanselow added.

After that, Liam concluded, saying, “And especially because we shot it in Melbourne and Melbourne surrounds. The movie’s supposed to be set in America. So to have a kangaroo in shot, no, that wouldn’t be good.”

The upcoming action thriller starring Taken star Liam Neeson isn’t the only movie to face kangaroo-related trouble during filming. However, this film had a particularly funny and unusual twist. For The Mongoose, the crew had to monitor the animals carefully during outdoor driving scenes.

Several other movies filmed in Australia’s forests and Outback regions have also faced challenges involving wildlife and kangaroos, including Kangaroo Jack (2003), The Rover (2014), and the Mad Max series.

The Mongoose opened in U.S. theaters on October 30, 2026. The film marks Mark Vanselow’s directorial debut. Alongside Liam Neeson, the movie stars Marisa Tomei, Ving Rhames, Michael Chiklis, Brett Tucker, Marcus Thomas, and Maurice Marvel Meredith.
