Fans have never seen any friendship, personal connection, or feud between Eddie Murphy and Noah Wyle. However, they might be surprised to learn that the TV actor has a childhood story involving the comedian. Now, Wyle is crediting Murphy for inspiring his personal rule about signing autographs for kids.
Noah Wyle reveals Eddie Murphy told him to ‘f**k off’ when he asked for his autograph
The actor recently appeared on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast, where he discussed his career, some ups and downs in his life, and even recalled a childhood memory. During the conversation, Noah Wyle revealed that American comedian once told him to “f**k off” when he asked the comedian for an autograph.
Wyle said, “I met Eddie once when I was a kid. I asked him for his autograph, and I said, ‘I really like you on SNL,’ And he goes, ‘What are you doing up that late?’”
“And I said, ‘Can I have your autograph?’ He goes, ‘F— off, man,’” he explained, and then added, “I always sign an autograph. Whenever a 9-year-old needs an autograph from me, I sign that so fast.”
The American actor and TV director then explains how the story eventually leads him to get Murphy’s autograph. Although it wasn’t real, Wyle says the outcome turns out to be even better for him.
Noah Wyle has told this story at home many times. Last year, when he celebrated his birthday, his 10-year-old daughter, Frances, struggled to figure out what to get him. So, she printed out a picture of famous actor Eddie Murphy from the internet. However, she misspelled Eddie’s name as “E-d-d-y.”
Wyle had the picture framed and keeps it in his office. He considers it his favorite gift. The funny part is that his daughter also made up a story to go along with the present. She told her father, “Dad, you’re never going to believe who Mom and I saw yesterday. Eddie Murphy. And we got what you’ve always wanted, his autograph.”
The comedian has yet to comment on the story. However, it’s worth noting that there is only a 10-year age difference between Noah Wyle and the Norbit star. So, when this incident took place, Murphy was still in the early stages of his fame.
