Owen Wilson once fooled Woody Harrelson with a Christmas gift that was already his. The actor recently recalled how his friend initially loved the gifts before realizing that Wilson had tricked him.
During his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Wilson recalled visiting Harrelson’s house during Christmas. The family invited him to stay for hot chocolate before opening presents. He decided to pull a prank and pretended to leave for his car. Instead, he entered Harrelson’s bedroom through the sliding doors and went straight to his closet.
Wilson recalled, “I go through the sliding doors that lead to the bedroom and Woody’s closet.” He added, “I go in there, and I grab, you know, a sweater, some shoes, run back around, put it in a bag, walk in and I go, Merry Christmas, Woody.” Harrelson initially had no idea that the gifts were his own clothes. When he received them, he told Wilson, “Dude, I didn’t get you anything.”
Wilson encouraged his friend to try on the items before thanking him. He recalled that Harrelson loved the presents, and the shoes made him “jumping up and down” like a child. Seeing his friend’s excitement, Wilson decided to repeat the prank. He said, “This time I don’t even bother trying to get new stuff,” explaining how he grabbed more clothes from the closet.
Harrelson was nearly in tears with gratitude when Wilson handed him more gifts. Harrelson said, “You got me more stuff,” prompting Wilson to joke, “Christmas is big to me.” However, Harrelson eventually started recognizing the familiar clothes and said, “Dude, this looks familiar.” Wilson then revealed the joke, saying, “I gave you the greatest gift of all this Christmas, appreciating what you already have.”

Wilson also discussed reuniting with his former co-stars in Focker-in-Law. The upcoming comedy brings back Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Teri Polo, and Blythe Danner, alongside Wilson, who reprises his role as Kevin Rawley.
Speaking to People at the Los Angeles premiere of Rolling Loud: The Movie, Wilson reflected on working with the returning cast. Wilson said, “I think everybody was kind of excited to be reunited and to tell this latest installment of Meet the Parents.” The actor added, “I think everybody slipped right back in pretty easily.”
The film continues the story established in the Meet the Parents franchise and also features Ariana Grande. Focker-in-Law will arrive in theaters on November 25, 2026.
