Ryan Gosling’s Gray Man Franchise Returns in 2027, but There’s a Twist

The 2022 Netflix film The Gray Man, starring Ryan Gosling, brought author Mark Greaney’s lethal protagonist to a global audience. While plans for a movie sequel have stalled in Hollywood, Court Gentry’s story continues to thrive in its original form. The powerhouse literary universe expands independently next year, delivering the next high-stakes chapter of his dangerous life directly to bookstores.

The Gray Man franchise gets its 16th book next year

Mark Greaney’s The Gray Man book series continues growing. The 16th novel, titled Dark Union, arrives on February 16, 2027. Publisher Mark Berkley will release the upcoming installment. Fans won’t have to wait much longer for Court’s return.

The latest book follows 2026’s The Hard Line. That 15th installment reached third place on the New York Times bestseller list. The story follows Court Gentry faces dangerous assassins and corrupt intelligence officials.

In the upcoming novel, he attends his father’s funeral and unexpectedly sees his brother, who was believed to have died nine years earlier. Court begins investigating how his brother survived, but powerful people try to hide the truth.

Back in 2022, Netflix released The Gray Man starring Ryan Gosling as Court Gentry and Chris Evans as Lloyd Hansen, alongside Ana de Armas, Regé-Jean Page, Billy Bob Thornton, and Dhanush.

The movie follows Court, a skilled CIA operative who uncovers secret agency information and becomes a target of assassins sent to kill him. He must survive while exposing the agency’s corruption.

Directors Anthony and Joe Russo hoped to build a franchise, and Netflix announced plans for a sequel and a spin-off. However, the sequel has faced repeated delays since its announcement. The Russos have also said there’s currently little momentum. If the sequel eventually moves forward, it could adapt the second book, On Target.

However, Netflix has not confirmed a production schedule yet. Meanwhile, the book series continues, with its 15th installment, The Hard Line, released earlier this year, and its 16th installment, Dark Union, set to hit bookstores next year.
