A young man sent an apology to Prince William after mistaking him for the singer Prince during the royal’s visit to a cafe in Ilminster, Somerset. The apology came after William shared the story of how the young man had asked him to sing a song. The Prince of Wales made the revelation during his appearance on “The Graham Norton Show,” alongside Cate Blanchett, Hannah Waddingham, and Robert Irwin.
Sebastian Smith’s encounter with the Prince of Wales at Sweet Surprise café
A 22-year-old named Sebastian Smith encountered Prince William during his visit to Sweet Surprise cafe. Smith, who has been diagnosed with Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome, received workplace education through the cafe. After his mother saw William recall their encounter on “The Graham Norton Show,” she explained to The Sun why her son couldn’t recognize the future king.
Smith’s mother said, “To be honest, I don’t think Sebastian had any idea who Prince William was – but he’s a massive fan of Prince the singer and can list all his songs and knows all the lyrics.” She further explained that her son had assumed Prince William was the singer Prince. She described the mix-up as “amazing,” given her son’s learning difficulties.
She continued, referring to Smith sending his apology to Prince William, “We’ve helped Sebastian write a letter to Prince William. We hope he sees it.” These remarks came after William disclosed that he came across Smith in the cafe, who regarded him as a “lovely gentleman.” He then revealed that he requested that he sing the song “Purple Rain.” However, William said that he didn’t really know the lyrics of that particular song.
During his appearance on the British talk show, the Prince of Wales also revealed that he considered two career paths when he was younger. He once dreamed of becoming a policeman, while his other ambition was to become a DJ. He also shared that he had a secret stage name, “DJ Xara.”
