Meghan Markle’s Sudden UK Exit Not Tied to Dad’s Controversy — Report

Meghan Markle’s sudden U.K. exit came as headlines intensified around her estranged dad, Thomas Markle. However, royal journalist Andrea Caamano said the timing was “coincidental,” not a flight from the controversy.

The Duchess had already left Britain with Prince Harry and their children for the October school break. Multiple royal commentators expected the family back shortly. Meanwhile, Meghan’s father remained under investigation in the Philippines and continued denying the allegations against him.

Royal journalist Andrea Caamano claims Meghan Markle’s sudden UK exit is ‘coincidental’

As per Page Six, Andrea Caamano rejected Meghan Markle’s escape narrative. “I wouldn’t describe Meghan as having fled the UK following the allegations against her father,” she said. Caamano noted the news broke while the Sussexes were already abroad for half-term.

The royal journalist noted some British schools have a “two-week break in the UK.” Therefore, the timing appeared “coincidental rather than a deliberate decision to escape the headlines,” Caamano said. Meanwhile, Kinsey Schofield said the family could simply be using the school holiday. She suggested they could spend time together while “allowing some of the controversy to settle.”

Neither commentator expected a prolonged retreat. Schofield said it might last “about as long as the children’s half-term holiday.” Caamano expected Meghan and Prince Harry back in the U.K. by week’s end. “I don’t anticipate this becoming a prolonged retreat from public life,” she said.

Caamano pointed to Meghan’s As Ever holiday launches and expected her promotional work to continue. Then, she summed up her view as “keep calm and carry on.” Similarly, Schofield saw no intention of “abandoning their ambitions in Britain.” She called the trip a “convenient opportunity to let the headlines cool down.”

Separately, Thomas Markle was under investigation by Philippine authorities over alleged possession of child sexual abuse images. Justice Undersecretary Nicholas Ty confirmed his task force “is currently investigating the matter.” Thomas denied the allegations, calling them “sick lies.”

Meghan called the reports “deeply distressing.” She said her thoughts were with “any children who may have been harmed.” The “Suits” alum also addressed her distance from her dad in a statement to Newsweek. She said preventing contact with her children was “for one reason: to protect them.” Those confirmed statements remained separate from the reported timing of the family’s U.K. exit.
