Ryan Gosling has surprised fans by returning to a musical project just in time for Halloween. The actor has reunited with his longtime collaborator for a haunting new release. Their latest track marks an unexpected comeback after 17 years without new music.
Ryan Gosling’s band Dead Man’s Bones releases new song
Dead Man’s Bones, Gosling’s band with screenwriter and producer Zach Shields, released “Lost in the Night” on Tuesday, October 27. The single arrived just days before Halloween 2026. Their return also marked their first new music since releasing their self-titled debut album in 2009.
The duo worked with longtime collaborator Tim Anderson to produce the horror-inspired indie-rock track. According to a press release, they struggled to find their desired sound in several Los Angeles studios. They eventually took their instruments to a farm outside the city.
“After trying several Los Angeles studios without finding the sound they wanted, the duo took two guitars, two drum machines, and two synthesizers to a farm outside the city and recorded the song in a day,” the press release explained.
The band also acknowledged fans who had waited years for new material. “Thanks for sticking with us all these years. New single, Lost In The Night. More coming soon. Listen via the link in our bio,” they wrote on Instagram.
The new release also arrived with a black-and-white music video starring actors Rain Spencer and Noah Jupe. The video follows the pair as they leave a cemetery and wander through lamplit streets, exploring the excitement of young love.
Dead Man’s Bones originally emerged from Gosling and Shields’ shared fascination with supernatural themes. Their 2009 album featured the Silverlake Conservatory Children’s Choir and blended gothic folk, indie rock, and doo-wop. Pitchfork described the record as “a truly unusual and surprising record.”
The band’s music later appeared in projects including The Conjuring and Teen Wolf. Gosling has also demonstrated his musical abilities through several major screen performances. Now, “Lost in the Night” brings him back to his darker musical roots. The band has promised more music, although further release details remain unknown.
