Eminem and Kid Rock Preach Political Unity After Years on Opposite Sides

Eminem and Kid Rock found common ground despite their political differences. The longtime friends reunited for “7 Sins,” a new track that Kid Rock said could offer a lesson about staying connected despite opposing beliefs.

The collaboration appears on Rock’s upcoming Christian album Halfway to Jesus. Their reunion also revived a friendship that stretched back to their Detroit-area roots and a 1998 musical collaboration.

Eminem and Kid Rock are hoping “7 Sins” can offer an example for politically divided people

Rock revealed the tracklist on October 1, surprising fans with Eminem’s name attached to “7 Sins.” Some listeners questioned whether the collaboration was real, but Eminem’s representative confirmed the track to Complex. Rock explained the collaboration in the album’s foreword, obtained by the publication. “I’m proud of the guests who joined me, especially my old friend Eminem,” he wrote.

“His verse speaks to something we’ve talked about and that really needs to be heard: we differ politically and on other things, but we’ve stayed friends through it all,” Rock continued. He added, “We hope that sets an example for people who’ve lost friends or stopped talking to family because they think differently.”

Their musical history began in 1998 when Eminem appeared on Rock’s “F— Off.” The song appeared on Devil Without a Cause, which arrived months before Eminem’s major-label debut. Rock later appeared in Eminem’s “Berzerk” video in 2013. The two also appeared on Trick Trick’s “From tha D” remix. Their friendship remained intact despite their contrasting political views. Rock supported Donald Trump, while Eminem publicly criticized him.

In 2024, Rock praised Eminem for speaking openly about his beliefs. “I don’t agree with his politics, but I do give credit to him,” Rock wrote on social media. Eminem responded with a shared Detroit sports cheer. Meanwhile, Halfway to Jesus marks Rock’s first Christian album. Its guests include Rascal Flatts’ Gary LeVox and Jimmie Allen.

The album’s first single, “James 1:17 (Jesus Is King),” arrived October 1. The project is listed with an October 17 release date, which is also Eminem’s birthday.
