Barack Obama jokes about Michelle and his marriage
Barack Obama cited his marriage to Michelle Obama to make a point about political disagreements during a campaign appearance in Detroit. Speaking on Saturday, October 24, the former president defended Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed against criticism over his differences with Obama, according to The Mirror.
Obama made the remarks while campaigning for El-Sayed and Michigan gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. Responding to criticism of El-Sayed’s political disagreements with him, Obama stressed that sharing the same position on every issue was not necessary.
“Some people say, ‘Abdul didn’t like some of the things you did as president.’ Let me tell you something. We are not going to agree on every issue,” Obama told the audience. He then brought Michelle into the discussion to emphasize his point, joking that even his wife does not always share his views. “So Abdul didn’t agree with some things. You know who else doesn’t agree with everything I do. Michelle Obama,” he added.
During his remarks, he urged voters to oppose President Donald Trump, whom he criticized as “corrupt,” while encouraging support for El-Sayed and Benson. The former president added, “After 10 years of chaos, and cruelty, and corruption, and incompetence, tomfoolery, nonsense, the likes of which this country has not seen in modern times at least, you get to say ‘enough is enough.’”
With the November 3 election approaching, Obama has been appearing on the campaign trail to rally Democratic supporters in key races.
