A major Task Season 1 cast member just confirmed they won’t be returning for the HBO drama’s second season. The actor revealed surprising details about the show’s massive cast overhaul in an exclusive interview.
Lilli Kay confirms a new cast in Task Season 2
Lilli Kay confirmed her departure from HBO’s Task in an exclusive interview with ScreenRant. The actress revealed that the show’s second season features an entirely new ensemble. “It’s a whole new cast, which is very exciting,” Kay said. “There’s a lot of new people in it. I’m not in this season.”
Kay portrayed Frankie Grasso in the Task season 1 finale, which aired on October 19, 2025. Her character is the sister of detective Anthony Grasso, played by Fabien Frankel. In the finale, Anthony confesses to Frankie about damaging information tied to Lizzie Stover’s death. He then gets shot during an ambush but survives.
Despite leaving Task, Kay has already reunited with one of the show’s directors. She recently worked with Jeremiah Zagar on an upcoming project. “That was a beautiful reunion,” Kay said about the experience. She also expressed admiration for the show’s creative team. “I love Brad [Ingelsby], I love Jeremiah, I love Fab [Frankel],” she added. “All the people who I got to work with on that show were such a treat.”
HBO renewed Task for a second season in late 2025. Production is currently underway in Pennsylvania. Mark Ruffalo, Martha Plimpton, Silvia Dionicio and Andrew Russel will return for season 2. The new cast includes Mahershala Ali, Harry Melling, Tim Blake Nelson and Jharrell Jerome. Julianne Nicholson will also appear as her Mare of Easttown character, Lori Ross.
Kay will next appear in Stick season 2, premiering November 4. She reprises her role as Christina “Zero” Duffy alongside Owen Wilson and Timothy Olyphant. The actress previously starred in Chambers, Your Honor and Yellowstone.
