Ariana Grande Says Goodbye to Her Most Iconic Look

Ariana Grande has made a dramatic change to one of her most recognizable features. The singer has traded her signature long ponytail for a much shorter hairstyle. Grande unveiled the new haircut on social media, showing off a sleek bob with flipped ends. The transformation marks another major beauty change after years of making the high ponytail part of her signature image.

Ariana Grande has traded her signature ponytail for a short bob haircut

Grande debuted the look in an Instagram carousel on Oct. 22. Her short bob featured a deep side part and outward-flipped ends, according to TMZ.

The change immediately stood out because Grande has spent years closely associated with her long ponytail. Her hairstylist Brandon Pietsch also acknowledged the shift, joking that “the ponytail is taking a hiatus.”

Grande paired the cut with a rich brunette shade. That color represents another departure from the blonde hair she wore while playing Glinda in the Wicked movies.

The singer first began moving away from her Glinda-era look last year. She returned to brunette after spending roughly three years blonde and later continued experimenting with different styles.

By January, Grande was already drawing attention for another brunette hair transformation at the Critics’ Choice Awards. At that event, however, she styled her longer hair in an updo with bangs.

The ponytail had not disappeared completely. During her Eternal Sunshine Tour this summer, Grande still wore her long hair in the familiar high ponytail while showing off several stage looks.

Now, the dramatic chop suggests she is ready for something different.

Grande’s famous friends and fans quickly praised the makeover online. Her boyfriend, Ricky Alvarez, also reacted to the photos, writing, “i wanna ask you out,” according to TMZ.

Whether the ponytail eventually returns remains to be seen. For now, Grande appears firmly committed to her new bob era.
