Dove Cameron has revealed that years of intense public scrutiny influenced her decision to keep her relationship and wedding plans largely out of the spotlight. The singer told Coveteur that she reached a “breaking point” when details of her private life became public property, prompting her to take greater control over what she shares with the world.
Dove Cameron’s experience with public scrutiny shaped her wedding plans
Dove Cameron said constant media and public attention eventually overwhelmed her, especially when people judged her life based on assumptions rather than facts. “I just reached a breaking point a few years ago when everything felt so invasive and a lot of my private life was really everywhere and everybody knew everything about me,” she told Coveteur.
The actor acknowledged that she had chosen to share some personal details in the past, but other information became public without her consent. She also recalled how people reacted to major events in her life, often creating narratives that did not reflect what had actually happened.
Cameron said the experience taught her that she did not have to let strangers judge every decision she made. She explained that people formed opinions about her based on stories that were “incredibly baseless and off the mark” and interpreted aspects of her life without understanding the full picture. The experience helped her realize that she could not let others dictate how she lived. As she put it, “Every single person in the world cannot have a red editor’s pen for your life.”
Cameron and her fiancé, Måneskin frontman Damiano David, chose to keep their relationship milestones private. The couple became engaged in October 2025 but kept the news away from the public until January. Cameron later announced their engagement on an Instagram post that featured her ring. She captioned the photographs, “My favourite part of being alive. Happy New Year.”
Cameron and David exchanged vows on September 24 at the historic Town Hall in Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy, PEOPLE confirmed. The couple coordinated their wedding outfits. Cameron wore a fitted look cinched at the waist, paired with a white tie and a draped cape. David complemented her outfit with an ivory ensemble and a silk scarf.
