The actress recently spoke with Page Six, during which Meghan Markle opened up about her estranged father. The Duchess of Sussex said the allegations played a role in keeping her father away from her children, Archie and Lilibet.
Markle said, “In 2018, a letter was sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection. That letter was subsequently shared with me. It made troubling and disturbing allegations against my father, and I was given assurances that these were being investigated.”
“I hope it can now be understood that, despite certain media publications’ distortion over the years, any distance from my father and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children, was for one reason: to protect them. I trusted that the authorities were doing the same for other families,” she added.
The Duchess later said the situation was far worse than she had expected. She hopes the authorities will deliver justice and continue to prioritize the protection of innocent children. “Thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed,” she concluded.
Meghan was going through several major life changes when she received the troubling letter in the summer of 2018. The actress married Prince Harry in May 2018, and the letter reached her through the police shortly after their wedding. Exactly a year after she received the letter, the 45-year-old gave birth to her son, Archie. Princess Lilibet, was born in June 2021, nearly three years after Meghan received the letter.
