@RegalMovies updated on X, “Celebrate 10 years of The Angry Birds Movie by reliving the adventure that started it all on the big screen. Showing at Regal, November 13. #AngryBirds10thAnniversary.”
The Angry Birds Movie was originally released back in May 2016. It launched the Angry Birds film franchise, becoming one of the highest-grossing films based on a video game. The franchise continued with The Angry Birds Movie 2 in 2019, followed by The Angry Birds Movie 3, scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 23, 2026.
The Angry Birds Movie returns as the franchise prepares for its next adventure
Directed by Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly, the blockbuster 3D-animated comedy follows three outcast birds on Bird Island. The 2016 film, in which Peter Dinklage voiced the Mighty Eagle, followed the trio as they investigated mysterious green pigs led by Leonard, who stole the community’s eggs. Danny McBride provided the voice for Bomb, a black bird who suffers from intermittent explosive disorder. The film was made on a reported budget of $73 million, and it grossed $352 million worldwide at the box office despite receiving mixed reviews.
In addition to this release, the franchise is now preparing for its next adventure. A little over a month after the original film’s re-release, the third installment is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 23, 2026. The upcoming movie will once again feature Red in the lead role, but a lot has changed since he first graced the big screen. In The Angry Birds Movie 3, Red will face his biggest test yet as he navigates full-time fatherhood alongside a dangerous new global threat.
The theatrical re-release and third film will bring two Angry Birds events to theaters in late 2026.
