A clip of Donald Trump and his wife Melania has gone viral on X, which shows the First Lady seemingly shifting away from the President’s kiss.
They were both taking part in an executive order signing at the White House. During Monday’s event, President Trump signed an order to create a women’s task force at the White House and a division at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). These units will address and research existing issues related to women’s health.
However, after the signing, a moment involving an attempted kiss from the President sparked online discussion about their dynamic in public.
In the video posted by X user Aaron Rupar, Trump can be seen moving in to kiss Melania. The First Lady then appears to turn her head to the side, leading Trump to kiss her cheek rather than her lips.
A user commented on the video, “Look at those bushy eyebrows; they look scary enough to make any woman turn their head, at least she dodged them.” Another user went on to comment, “She is only required to make an appearance once a month. That’s it. No kissing is required. It’s in the pre nup.” A third user wrote, “Even Melania hates Donald. She almost turned her head completely around….”
While speaking to HuffPost, body language expert Traci Brown said, “I don’t know the protocol here. But she doesn’t let him kiss her on the lips, only offering her cheek.”
