Alan Ritchson has turned a viral musical moment into a full-blown duet. The actor, currently filming Reacher Season 5, posted a video of himself singing lyrics he wrote to a piano piece composed by Bailey Pickles, all while sporting his character’s battered, rugged look.
Reacher Season 5’s Alan Ritchson sings a song with lyrics that he wrote
The collaboration began when Alan Ritchson sent a personal video message to Belly Pickles, a composer and pianist known for improvising music and scoring major events such as Vivid Sydney. Pickles responded by improvising a piano piece based on Ritchson’s notes, and the musical exchange went viral on social media.
Ritchson then raised the bar. In his latest post, he performed lyrics of his own over Pickles’ melody, writing in the caption: “It started with 3 notes! @baileypickles took those three beautiful notes and improvised one gorgeous song this morning. But what happens if we add lyrics!? Better or worse? You decide. Comments welcome. Music is fun. I love music. Music makes me happy. @baileypickles you’re the best. Thanks for giving me a healthy distraction for a day.”
The actor performed the scruffy, beat-up appearance he carries while working on Reacher Season 5, giving the clip an extra dose of his on-screen persona. The post also offered fans a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the action series’ next chapter, which is still in production, with Ritchson back in the title role as the wandering former military police investigator.
Pickles was clearly stunned by the development, reacting in the comment section: “NO WAYYYYYYY!!! Thank you @alanritchson for adding your lyrics to my piano!! This is so crazy.” The exchange has quickly become a fan favorite, with Ritchson inviting viewers to weigh in on whether his lyrics improve the composition. For the star, though, the project is simply a joyful diversion and a reminder that, as he put it, music makes him happy.
