Prime Video’s upcoming Fourth Wing adaptation has reportedly taken a step forward with the casting of its two lead characters. The fantasy series is based on Rebecca Yarros’ bestselling novel, which has gained a following for its mix of magic and romance.
Esther McGregor and Emilio Sakraya to lead Prime Video’s Fourth Wing TV series
Prime Video has chosen Esther McGregor and Emilio Sakraya to portray the two central characters in its upcoming adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’ bestselling fantasy novel Fourth Wing. McGregor will take on the role of Violet Sorrengail, while Sakraya will play Xaden Riorson. The fantasy series follows Violet’s unexpected entry into the dangerous world of dragon riding, where her path at Basgiath War College brings her into conflict with Xaden before their relationship develops into a romance.
As reported by Deadline, Violet had planned to become a Scribe and follow in her father’s footsteps by documenting Navarre’s history. Her plans change when her mother, General Lilith Sorrengail, orders her to train as a dragon rider instead. Violet must then face the brutal conditions at Basgiath, where candidates risk their lives to join Navarre’s elite riders. Her encounter with Xaden further complicates her experience at the college.
Amazon MGM Studios acquired the television rights to Yarros’ Empyrean book series in 2023, before Prime Video ordered the adaptation in May 2026. Meredith Averill is attached as showrunner and executive producer.
The series’ executive-producing team also includes Lisa Joy, Jonathan Nolan and Athena Wickham for Kilter Films; Michael B. Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo for Outlier Society; and Liz Pelletier and Sherryl Clark for Premeditated Productions.
Fourth Wing is the first novel in Yarros’ Empyrean series. The author released Iron Flame later in 2023, followed by Onyx Storm in 2025. A fourth book is in progress, and a fifth chapter is planned.
